Every home needs a cozy reading corner. It’s sanctuary where you can escape into your favorite books and enjoy a moment of calm. Whether you’re setting up a standalone area or combining it with your home office, the key is to design a space that reflects your style while ensuring comfort and functionality.
In my article “Reading is Self-Care,” I emphasized how taking time to read can improve your mental health and well-being. A reading corner is the perfect place to make self-care a daily habit. So let’s discover how to create the perfect reading corner.
1. Begin with the basics :
First, you and I both know that the first step is selecting an appropriate chair. This is mostly focused upon ease of use. I normally go with plush arm and position myself in the corner of the chair for extra assistance. However, if you have limited space; an ergonomic chair would be appropriate too. Then you’ll need a biblio (which is also known as a bookshelf) for all the books you wish to read, perhaps your favorites would be good enough. In a small room, it’s best to use a narrow bookshelf, but a larger stand will bring style to your reading nook.
2. Choose the right lighting:
For your next step, make sure that the reading corner in your home has the right lighting. In fact, standing lamps or a desk lamp that can be changed to warm light will be perfect. It will reduce the amount of eye strain while creating an inviting atmosphere for the area. Also, if you’re positioning the reading corner close to a window, the light will be great during the day because it will be natural.
3. Pile up cozy elements:
In addition to placing a chair in your reading corner, you may find it useful to place a rug under your chair to enhance the appearance of your reading corner. This adds warmth and also visually completes the area. Moreover, use a throw blanket and decorative cushions with a color theme of your choice; it definitely will create a warm atmosphere.
4. Make it your own:
Also, to create the perfect reading corner you need to make it unique and one of a kind. Surely, a couple of decorative items such as a picture in a frame, a green plant, and even a scented candle would be perfect for this purpose. Such elements will help personalize your area.
5. Combine It with your home office:
In case there is a shortage of space, you can use the tribune for work and the reading corner for pleasure. Besides, you can place a mini desk beside your chair, and the biblicum’s function can be to hold both literature and some of the office materials. This multi-function procedure not only saves space but enhances relations between work and leisure. Inspiration for the reading corner After and Before the recap
To conclude the post, as you arrange your reading corner, your imagination is the limit. This is because it depends on how creative you are. I used a few very simple elements that combined to make a very uninteresting nook interesting and sleek, but comfortable for reading. The effect is evident, as seen in the before –and –after photographs, where a simple white chair, a rug, a plain bibliotheca are just a few the things required.
